Each seed is enveloped in a sweet, juicy pulp followed by a tough outer shell. Inside lies the small edible coconut, technically a drupe rather than a nut, measuring 2 centimeters in diameter. Its edible portion consists of a cellular layer of endosperm deposited along the coconut's walls, forming the delectable “coquitos” flesh.
